What women have to offer a church staff, a ministry team or even just as a volunteer in the body of Christ is invaluable. There is no way to measure the impact that a wise, fruitful woman can have on the people around her and on the organization that she serves.
When my husband and I teach on marriage, I often say, "The husband is the head of the home but the woman is the heart. So, which would you rather live without ... your head or your heart?!"
My husband will quickly add, "Although a husband may be called to be the leader of a marriage and of the family, the wife is called to set the atmosphere of the home every day in a thousand ways, big and small. The heart of a woman is a much greater determinant to the overall happiness of a family than is a man's leadership style."
Women have a unique way of setting the atmosphere in the family, in a business organization and on a church team. The heart of a woman is able to play a major role in regulating the tone that is prevalent for others in which to operate.
God has given to women the assignment of ensuring that everyone on the ministry team, or in the home, is treated with kindness, compassion and with importance. Consider the role of a mother and how she is able with one look, with one word or with one touch to settle a troubled soul or bring peace to a situation.
Such is the role of a woman in ministry. A woman is able to command the atmosphere of a group of people with words of kindness, a listening heart and with sincere compassion.
When a woman is argumentative, prone to gossip and chooses to be negative in church staff meetings, the mood of the meeting can change from being highly productive to one of fruitless opinion. Women have a God-given knack for determining the quality of a meeting in obscure but powerful ways.
Next time that you are in a meeting with a ministry team, church staff or group of Christian leaders, remember that you are the heart of that meeting. Choose to be a power player of the very best kind.
Determine ahead of time, regardless of how tense the meeting becomes or how difficult the topic is that is being discussed, that as a woman called by God, that you will set a climate of wisdom and an atmosphere of peace. Thoughtfully listen to others' opinions and choose to be encouraging rather than discouraging.
When a woman steps into her God-given role as the heart of a team, people's lives can literally be changed. A positive environment filled with genuine grace and unconditional friendship may be the greatest input that you will ever give.
