What is it that you do best?
When you are firing on all cylinders, what are you doing? Be specific. Really think about this.
In my coaching experience with CEOs, executives and entrepreneurs, I've noticed that as time passes highly successful leaders often stop doing what they do best. I'm not the only one to observe this fact. (See The E-Myth Revisited by Gerber for a classic read on the topic.)
What I find in coaching is that leaders are usually not aware that they have left their first love and primary gift. Promotions come and career changes are made and along the way a typical leader drifts into a higher rung on the organization chart. The higher rung is more demanding and requires a much different skill set.
It's not much different in the ministry. More responsibility and a larger platform can easily pull a leader away from the gifts that make the leader unique and special. Some leaders lament that as responsibility increases, prayer and study time decreases.
Don't let what's best about you become dormant. Be aware of any drift away from your primary gifts. When God gives you an enlarged field, your primary gifts will be the source of your effectiveness.
Model what you do best.
